This does not truly support the concept of portability. Replacement batteries are expensive, but, sadly, the price wasn't really coming down much. After reading the positive reviews above I placed an order for this replacement battery for my HP notebook computer. The product was packed very well and shipped promptly. It looked good out of the box; no physical damage. Unfortunately, the battery would not charge in my HP notebook, so I contacted Amazon and they promptly provided means for returning the battery for a credit to my account.

Later in the same day I received a phone call directly from Imac, the battery supplier to Amazon, by an employee named John. He was genuinely concerned that I had received a defective battery and explained that Imac products have an extremely low defect rate. He wanted to make things right and offered to ship a replacement free of charge. I agreed and he shipped the battery.

It arrived the NEXT BUSINESS DAY. He had shipped it overnight. This battery worked perfectly, and I am very happy with the purchase.

I must say this is the most responsive customer service I have ever experienced from any vendor, and I can recommend this product to other customers without hesitation. I could not be happier.

I bought HP Pavilion dv5-1251nr in June, 2009 from a reputed US store.

After purchase, for first few months my laptop was fine but thereafter from mid Dec'09, I started to face issues of continuous mild noise emitting from the right top corner of laptop (where power cord is attached to the body) while booting my laptop or running anti-virus scan on hard drive.

I hear a metallic click click sound also (that comes twice) when I switch on my laptop by pressing power button. Again, I hear continuous noise during shut-down which is similar to that occurring during start-up and it emits similar mild noise when I open or save files from / to hard disc. This is not even one year after purchase and naturally, I started wondering how a quality (?) product can start behaving abnormally within a few months.

I contacted HP tech support (1 800 474 6836) who operates from all over India (cities of Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata etc.) for last few days and each time, a different technical assistant would handle the complaint when I would explain and repeat the same thing to them. Each technical person would suggest different opinions and ask to try out a service pack and/or trouble shoot different options sometimes for more than an hour but were unable to make any conclusion when it is simple and clear from the very noise that it is purely a mechanical problem and not related to vista operating system or any driver software. Some of them promised to replace the hard disc but, seemed to be extremely cautious and each time they would request me to do more repeated troubleshooting.

More interestingly, HP technical assistants from Kolkata seemed to respond under a dubbed name as when I asked last name of one of them, he replied that they would not expose their names to customers !!!

However, this is not the practice for HP technical assistants from Hyderabad or Mumbai !!!

Exasperated, I filed a complaint at HP site ([...]) where they allow customers to fill in a complaint form when there is no provision for US customers (or any US state)! However, I entered my details clubbing all information in different form fields. I got a complaint identification number and was notified that it had been recorded and would be forwarded to the relevant department.

However, I do not have any status update from HP as yet as to redress of my complaint !!!

Unfortunately, I did not check and investigate reputation of HP - after sales support before laptop purchase. There are numerous complaints and posts about HP products and especially about its apathy to prompt service... some of the posts indicate that to tackle customer complaints, HP employees write favorable reviews about HP and its products over internet !!!

I came to know that a number of customers filed law suit in China against HP and verdict went in customers' favor and HP had to comply with court order.

Please read following posts before buying any HP product because of awful and atrocious service of this company !!!

I bought this HP for my wife to replace her 3 year old Toshiba. It's 100% her computer but she places everything technical in our lives on me and then holds me accountable for its performance. My wife is brutal on electronics and her laptop is no exception. The Toshiba had a VERY hard life and ticked along perfectly until the past few months. After wasting $200 on a failed repair (hard drive) I decided it was cheaper to replace it than to nurse it along. I initially went shopping for another Toshiba and frankly, I feel like I would be writing a 5 star review for a Toshiba if it hadn't come down to a $150 price difference. I was able to use the competing Toshiba at a retailer, but when I went to Amazon I found this HP. Nearly identical in performance and appearance; aside from a couple of keyboard control features they were the same.

I bought the HP, Amazon shipped it FedEX and it arrived to Fairbanks Alaska in less than 48 hours (used standard shipping, nothing special). She loves it, charged it up and it performs flawlessly and much better than my 8 month old Dell XPS (Argh, never again...long story). I have not attempted to load Office 2007 yet, but suspect from my research on 64 bit systems, it will work fine. Neither one of us cares for the bubble scheme and thinks it detracts from the professional look of the rest of the finish (petty, I know).

The mouse pad works perfectly and I particularly like the keyboard layout and feel of the keys. I REALLY like the number pad without having to buy a 17+ inch system which is of course standard now.

4 USB ports, 1 HDMI output, a great LCD screen and Graphics card...zero to complain about. Oh, and Windows 7 works very well.

I'll report back if it doesn't hold up to the flagrant neglect my wife typically inflicts on her electronics, but as of for now she is rightfully treating like a shiny new sports car!

ATTENTION:

HP laptops will give you nothing but problems in the end. Do not purchase HP laptops, they are over priced and will be of no benefit to you in the end. To those who enjoy spending thousands of dollars for a paper weight then go ahead. Once the problems happens dont expect HP support to help you either, I have read more compaints about HP support than I can count and I myself had the terrible experience of dealing with them. In adidition if HP continues to treat its customers with this lack om empathy they won't even be around long enough to help you with your fualty computer your about to purchase. Guys, honestly just don't do it.

"OK-after much work" 2010-03-04

This computer has a wonderful exterior design. The processor power that you get for your money is pretty decent for a laptop. Staples sold it 5 fifty on sale last year though, so it is sort of expensive here on amazon. I think I am hesitant to ever buy anything by HP again too, because for the first month or more it was randomly freezing in an infinite loop (the fan kicking on full blast, and the screen and all controlls freezing). It only froze at (seemingly) random times though. HP tech support remotely assisted, then troubleshot over the phone for at least a couple hours. Their solutions did not work. Eventually, we sent it in (at their expense), and they swapped out the HDD. Turns out it came corrupted. (We couldn't just burn the system restore disks since it was corrupted, and freezing) Now it works fine.

You also need to download and run the official Norton Removal Tool available free from Symantec's website to remove the free trial version of Norton. There is other bloatware too, so you can speed it up if you disable the support center from automatically running. (can't remember what all the bloat is called, but I never used it). Be aware that HP software can do strange and horrible things, like the printer "network devices" service that constantly accesses my HDD if I let it run.

All in all, after two consecutive problematic Pavilions, and one printer that broke mechanically and another with malfunctioning drivers, I am a little leary of HP. All in all though, I can't let the sum of all my HP experiences interfere in my review of this single notebook, but still, there are a lot of better options out there in my opinion, and at good prices too. I think this one is very good looking, but may not be the best choice. Check out all the cheap netbooks and tablets out there, if you can get by with less power/bulk. If not, this one may do the trick for you. As a home-laptop/desktop, this one may work well. It sacrifices portability for good screen size. Its rating really depends on your intended use, but for quality it is average. 3-stars.

Purchased this laptop for my wife who needed an upgrade. Rock solid operation which is critical in linking to the servers at her law firm. The fingerprint reader is a nice security feature. Windows 7 Pro works seamlessly with the firm's software aps. Size and weight are fine.

This lap top is cost effective, provides great performance and has a smooth design. Love the new layouts and the feel of the key board. The touch pad is improved and very sensitive (guess I have to get used to it) but I love that it has a button right next to it to shut it off. I like also that the touch control for the volume.

I am completely satisfied with this product.
